AA speaker Dr. Mike presents a Big Book study podcast and thoughts on recovery

Thoughts of Recovery – No. 15 – Purpose of the big book to answer the question of what do I have to do? Page 20

The authors are offering the reader their experience that led to recovery from a hopeless condition of mind and body. They suggest if you are an alcoholic who wants to get over it you would ask the question what do I have to do?  On page 20 they say the purpose of the big book is to answer that question specifically. They will tell him what they did. The book describes the path and gives specific directions to achieve what they did by doing exactly what they had done.   On page 44 it says the alcoholic must face the fact they must find a spiritual basis of life  – or else.

Unfortunately I don’t have a power on my own to live a spiritual life. My  dilemma was lack of power. Power to do what? On p45 it says we had to find a power by which we could live and it had to be a power greater than ourselves. Obviously. Where do we find this power? That is exactly what this book is all about. Its main object is to enable you to find a power greater than yourself which will solve your problem.

If someone asks me what do I have to do I tell them to read from Drs opinion to p102 and answer every question and follow every direction. Sponsorship in my opinion  is reading it with them and going over the questions and helping them take the actions.

One of the reasons I started this site was to help me and possibly others sponsor . The podcasts cover the book from Drs. Opinion thru Working with  others.I can have them listen to the podcasts and take notes in their big book or notebook and go over it with them . When get to fourth step can listen to the podcasts and follow the directions. Taking inventory on resentment , fear, and sex relationships. Then use that info for step 5 , 6, 7,8, and 9. Then study p84-88 continuosly. Only have had site up little more than 2 months so would like to know if it is helpful…. Can reach me at mhurwitz50@gmail.com
